Genelec Wins Sixth TEC Award

Tec Award nomminationGenelec has won its sixth prestigious TEC (Technical Excellence & Creativity) award. This time the accolade has been bestowed on the new 7070A active multichannel sub bass system.

The 7070A active subwoofer, designed for surround sound or traditional stereo systems, features Genelec’s ingenious, new Laminar Spiral Enclosure™ (LSE™) technology. The gently curved, sheet-metal enclosure allows a very long reflex venting tube to be fitted into a small space. This vent allows large amounts of air to move smoothly at low speed to maintain a constant frequency response over the full range of low frequencies. Like all the best ideas it is simple but clever.

The idea for the LSE series of sub bass units was conceived in Genelec's R&D lab during a brain-storming session, one evening. Genelec co-founder Ilpo Martikainen, recalls: "Suddenly this idea flashed in my head: I took a piece of paper and drew a spiral. I thought that if we could make it from sheet metal, it would make a very long and smooth tube."

TEC 2003 Award Winner: 7070AWith its 19 Hz lower cut-off frequency, high-SPL output, ultra-low distortion and versatile 6.1-channel bass management circuitry, the 7070A can be adapted to all low-frequency monitoring situations.

The TEC award is a fitting tribute to mark 2003 - Genelec's 25th year in the audio business. Says Ilpo "For 25 years we've simply been doing what we intended -producing monitors of the highest quality and design, and it feels good to be recognised for achieving our aim."
