Genelec Surround System at Power Sound Studio Amsterdam

Paul Pouwer (pronounced: Power) is the Grammy-award winning engineer who recorded numerous CD productions at his own studio and is well known for his outstanding live-mixing in complex productions such as those of the famous Dutch Metropole Orchestra.
The monitoring system in Power Sound Studio was to be replaced and after a serious and extensive orientation period Paul Pouwer decided, in January 2012, to have a demo set-up of the Genelec DSP system. In March he purchased the complete set-up.

Incredible detail

What made Paul choose for Genelec? Paul: “The sound. Long story short, that’s the bottom line. I’ve listened to different speakers but the sound of the Genelecs totally convinced me.
At first I had to get used to it but, when listening to older mixes, I started to hear details that I’ve never heard before, and, as I said, it totally convinced me. They are incredibly detailed and the imaging is excellent. If you listen in stereo it’s as if the vocals come from the centre speaker. I must say that I’m ever so happy with them”

Pleasant surprise

Supplier Jan Morel of Morel Muziek adds: “The three-way technology that Genelec applies in this monitor ensures the detailed sound. You can single out all individual tracks especially the vocals. Unbelievable how the vocals fall into place. It is a serious near field monitor for which you have to take your time to fully appreciate them. I wouldn’t know of any other monitor that has such detailed sound as the 8260. The launch of this speaker came as a pleasant surprise. We have a number of studio customers who are using them, all with the same positive experience and results”

Paul’s control room is designed for surround and he is well known for his impressive 5.1 productions. Jan: “It’s one of the few studio’s that actually does something with surround.
He makes magnificent music-dvd-productions. Frank the Genelec product specialist of Iemke Roos Audio, who calibrated the system, was very impressed by the quality of Pauls’ productions”

Low volume.

According to Jan Morel the 8260’s have an excellent price/performance ratio. And, he adds: “What makes these speakers so special is that even when listening at low volumes the dynamics of the music are still fully there. It’s almost unbelievable.”

Genelec DSP 8260A

The Genelec 8260 3-way DSP system is a masterpiece in electro-acoustic design which features major advances in audio driver technology integrated to a sophisticated enclosure design.
Genelec MDC™ Minimum Diffraction Coaxial Mid/High driver technology takes a big step in perfecting audio quality in professional active studio monitors. This breakthrough in coaxial driver design provides more accurate imaging and improved  sound quality both on the acoustical axis as well as off-axis. The extremely smooth frequency response leads to outstanding clarity and defi nition of the inner details of the music.
The 8260A combines, for the fi rst time, a coaxial driver (MDC™) with a modern waveguide technology (DCW™), ensuring drivers to couple coherently over their full operating bandwidth, as well as creating coincident mid-frequency/high frequency point source.
As a new member of the TEC Award-winning 8200 Series, the 8260A features Genelec DSP signal processing responsible for all loudspeaker functions, such as the crossover fi lters, driver equalizers, driver position alignment, room response alignment, calibration, and equalization related fi lters as well as distance
compensating delays.
The Genelec Loudspeaker Manager™ (GLM™) software manages all these functions allowing the 8260A to be used together with other 8200 Series DSP monitors and 7200 Series subwoofers in the same setup. Genelec AutoCal™ automated room calibration and sound system alignment method provides consistent and accurate frequency response for a multichannel audio system in widely varying room environments.
