With over 55,000 visitors flocking to the IBC show in Amsterdam last month, we used the show as an opportunity to introduce our new S360 and 7382 high-SPL models to the European broadcast market.
Auditioning monitors on a busy show floor has always been a challenging proposition, so this year we created our own soundproofed listening room and equipped it with a 7.1.4 immersive audio system consisting of the S360 in LCR positions, 8341 coaxial three-way monitors as surrounds, the 8331 coaxials positioned as overheads - and a 7380 subwoofer handling the LF duties.
Visitors poured into the room to hear a selection of movie, rock, jazz and classical content that showcased the ability of Genelec monitors to deliver outstanding immersive reproduction, enabling engineers to make accurate and informed mix decisions even on long sessions and with complex material.
Florian Camerer gave a fascinating Masterclass in orchestral mic techniques.
We were also thrilled to host immersive masterclasses in the listening room with top professionals Florian Camerer and Bernard Lohr. One of Europe’s finest audio engineers, Florian works for ORF in Vienna and gave us an insight into his techniques for recording immersive orchestral material, while engineer/producer Bernard Löhr has worked alongside Benny Andersson of ABBA for many years and described the process for recording and mixing in immersive for the new Mamma Mia! movie.
On the Saturday night of the show, we travelled to the nearby Harbour Club in Vinkeveen to entertain distributors and VIPs at the official European launch of the S360 and 7382. After presentations and listening sessions with our own Aki Makivirta and Thomas Lund, Bernard Lohr entertained the audience with a behind-the-scenes look at the Mamma Mia! music recording process, playing tracks from the movie to demonstrate how the immersive mix was created. This time a 7.1.4 immersive system was created using the S360 as LCR, 8351 coaxials in all surround and overhead positions, alongside the new 7382 subwoofer.
All in all this was one of the most successful IBC shows for us in recent years, and we’d like to thank everyone who stopped by to say hello. See you next year!
