“Local area networks (LANs) and IP-based applications are transforming our lives both in the office and at home,” says Lars-Olof Janflod, Genelec International Sales Manager. ”Inevitably, audio distribution is also going to change. Our new IP-based technology will deliver many cost, installation, and programming benefits to the integrator. Furthermore, our solution will be able to distribute uncompressed, high quality and professional quality audio across a LAN network, and with its visitor profile, ISE is the perfect launch platform for us to generate lots of interest in this new development.”
As LAN networks already exist in most office premises and are routinely installed in new buildings, the Audio over IP solution will have wide application in the corporate environment. In the near future, Genelec "Audio over IP" is planned to be incorporated as an extension to the current DSP monitoring systems product line - an advanced solution for accurate and consistent listening in multi-room facilities, typical of a LAN environment.
The ability to use LAN networks to replace dedicated audio cabling can deliver significant cost savings to the integrator. In addition to this there are other benefits as LAN networks make audio system setup flexible and fast as complex multi-room audio systems can be configured with ease, often with ‘plug-and-play’. Ongoing maintenance and remote monitoring are also simplified, as device health, power status and settings can all be controlled via the LAN network.
Experience Audio over IP by visiting Genelec on booth 1K73/1L72 at ISE 2010 and speak to a member of the Genelec sales & R&D team.
