At what must rank as the busiest ISE show that we’ve ever experienced, visitors flocked to the Genelec booth to witness the unveiling our new Smart IP Audio Platform, which delivers power, audio and scalable loudspeaker system configuration, supervision and calibration features via a single standard CAT5 cable.
For installed audio, having a single cable solution that provides power, audio-over-IP and flexible speaker management features results in much simpler and quicker installation, less wiring and thus less expense. Also, the ability of our Loudspeaker Manager software to offer not only room calibration features but device discovery, system organisation and monitoring of loudspeaker status and health means that for the first time you’ll be able to benefit from great Genelec sound, ease of installation and unrivalled control all in one package.
This revolutionary technology will start to appear in new Genelec Installation Loudspeakers in Q4 of this year, but at the show we demonstrated an active loudspeaker the size of our 4040 model, powered over ethernet and being fed with an AES67-compatible IP stream - with very impressive playback results! Stay tuned for more detailed information as the year progresses.
Also making its ISE debut was the S360 high-SPL smart loudspeaker, which is a formidable contender for any installation environment where the emphasis is placed on premium quality, high SPL vocal and music reproduction in a compact form factor – meaning that Genelec performance can now be extended to a wider range of applications, including lecture halls, auditoria, bars and clubs, live music performance, studio theatres and courtrooms. In fact one of the first high profile installations of the S360 is at Basso Club in Oulu, Finland - where the owners have been “bowled over by the quality and power coming from such a compact enclosure.”
Last but not least, the much-loved 4000 series was on display featuring just some of the 120 RAL colour finishes available that make it the perfect match for a huge range of interior designs.
The action didn’t just take place on the show floor though. Just ahead of the show, our own Aki Mäkivirta delivered a presentation to a packed AudioForum conference - a one day audio event organized in conjunction with Connessioni and the Audio Engineering Society. This year’s AudioForum event focussed on ‘Acoustic and sound environments and settings’ and Aki’s talk on ‘Extraordinary Sound’ described the perception of envelopment, and the physiology behind listener fatigue.
On the first night of the show, we hosted the second annual Genelec AV Awards at the stunning Hotel Witte Dame in Abcoude. This gave us an opportunity to celebrate with our key installation partners and give recognition to the finest Genelec AV projects that have taken place in the last 12 months. This year we shortlisted three amazing projects: Joan’s Café in Sweden, the JNcQUOI restaurant, bar and fashion store in Portugal, and the Suomalainen Kirjakauppa bookstore chain in Finland.
It was a terrifically hard decision, but after much discussion we agreed that JNcQUOI was the worthy winner, and so we were delighted to present the award to Raul Fernandes of AV integration specialists Garrett Audiovisuais, who were responsible for the project. Congratulations to Raul and the entire Garrett team.
Thank you to everyone who visited us during the show, and we’ll see you again next year!
