Mike Eriksson is a multi-talented music producer and mixer and is among Sweden’s fastest rising recording engineers, with a resume to match.
As the owner of Rockatown Studios in Stockholm and part of the highly respected team there, he works with and creates content for an impressive variety of artists ranging from rappers Petter and Nano, to pop stars such as Agnes Carlsson, Sergey Lazarev and Donny Montell through to rising soul man Samson for President.
Mike’s vision is to create moments for people to feel what the music is about, the story that is told between the notes.
We recently visited Mike in his studio for this exclusive One on One interview to find out how Genelec 8351 SAM monitors are helping him to work in new ways in his everyday life.
Having spent more than 10 years on the road as a musical director and musician, Mike believes in the importance of recording bands live. “I love to bring people together to do one session because it brings up so much tension and energy and everybody’s on their toes, trying to play their best. I think that day matters way more than coming in for an afternoon and putting guitars on a track.”
Just as important for Mike is his choice of Genelec 8351 SAM monitors. “The reason for me staying with the Genelecs is because they keep me happy every day that I listen to them,” he explains. “There are a lot of speakers out there that can reproduce a good curve, but to me having the Genelecs with me for productions means I’m happy all the time. I love listening to them, they sound great, I love the combination of having the full spectrum and from time to time being blown away by what I hear.”
He adds that his 8351s allow him to listen for longer. “ - I can also turn it down and keep hearing everything I want to hear, and work for hours…”
