Genelec Supports Young Ice Hockey Stars

Genelec’s company headquarters have for decades been based in the small Finnish town of Iisalmi. All our R&D and manufacturing takes place in this idyllic lakeside location, which is also home to our management, sales and marketing teams. Our commitment to Iisalmi has always extended beyond our factory to the local environment - and the wellbeing of the town’s community.
Local sports clubs and events are particularly close to our hearts, so when Iisalmen Peli-Karhut Juniorit approached us a few years ago with a plan for a children’s ice hockey tournament, it was a project that we instantly decided to support.
This year, the 3rd Genelec Turnaus took place in Iisalmi’s ice hall on Sunday 2nd April - marking the end of the season for many children in and around our hometown.
The tournament involved 11 teams from 6 nearby clubs, meaning around 160 children took part in total. For older players the tournament marked the end of their time in U9 “leijona-liiga” teams, but for many younger players it was their first real game after hockey school. For local clubs IPK, KK-81, LL-89, KallSi, PyPo and Hokki it was a chance to get together, drink some coffee and scout out the players to watch next season.
Over the course of a long day, games were won and lost - but the smiles were constant. The rivalry was always friendly: so much so that towards the end of the day when one team lost its goalkeeper but another team had four, all of whom wanted to help out, the selection was made after several rounds of “rock, paper, scissors”!
After each team completed their four games, all the players received a medal.
In a short break in the afternoon, the raffle winners were drawn by a young supporter. The main prize - a pair Genelec G One speakers – was won by Elias, a KK-81 player from Kiuruvesi.
