University of Surrey - Guildford
Dr. Philip Coleman from the University of Surrey is leading cutting edge research into spatial audio and sound field control using Genelec loudspeakers.
In the S3A project, together with partners at the University of Southampton, University of Salford, and BBC Research and Development, they are researching the capture, production, reproduction and perception of spatial audio with the aim of advancing the kinds of audio experiences people can have at home.
At Surrey, as seen in the images, they have created an audio production environment capable of recording, producing and listening to object-based audio content over multiple different loudspeaker setups. In the adjacent room, there is a further system that allows the exploration of the effect of the listening room acoustic on the perception of the content.
The system can also be used to produce sound zones, where multiple listeners can listen to different audio material without wearing headphones.
