The S30 story
Originally launched in 1978, the S30 was our very first studio monitor. For Genelec, this was where it all began.
In the spring of 1976, Juhani Borenius, an acoustician for Finnish broadcaster YLE, asked young student engineers Ilpo Martikainen (pictured) and Topi Partanen whether they could design and build an active monitoring loudspeaker that could deliver consistent performance, total reliability, easy serviceability, and the ability to adapt to the acoustic environment that it was placed in. Ilpo and Topi accepted Juhani’s challenge, created the now legendary three-way S30 model - and with that Genelec was born.
The S30B
These classic S30Bs represent the second generation of S30, delivering a smooth and neutral frequency response between 42 Hz and 25 kHz. With a maximum SPL of 125 dB with program material, these three-way monitors really pack a punch.
The pair we auctioned date from the early 1990s, and are in very good condition. They were fully serviced by our factory team, and came with a 2 year parts-and-labour warranty.

The Auction
The auction ran from the 9th December until the 19th of December 2021, and was hosted on eBay.
The entire proceeds of the auction were donated to the Kuopio University Foundation, to support projects focussed specifically on sustainable development.
