Inside KriB Studios: A Dolby Atmos Studio in Mumbai powered by Genelec

Q: Can you give some background to your studio?

KriB Studios is a Dolby Atmos-certified music and post-production studio in Santacruz (West), Mumbai. The studio was designed as an end-to-end creative space with a focus on delivering high-quality audio in both stereo and immersive formats. Everything from the room acoustics and monitoring to the workflow has been designed to make the journey from the initial creative idea to the final master as easy as possible. Our studio has one motto: Built for Sound. Designed for Art.

Q: How would you describe the studio's role, and what kinds of clients or projects do you work on?

We offer a wide range of audio production services, including music production, recording, editing, mixing, mastering, Dolby Atmos mixing, podcast production, ADR, voice-over recording, commercial audio and film post-production. We work with independent artists, music producers, filmmakers, OTT content creators, advertising agencies, brands, podcasters and voice artists who are looking for high-quality production in both stereo and immersive formats.

Q: Who were the key people involved in creating the KriB Studio?

Rolins Acoustics and Modi Digital helped with the studio built and acoustics. They designed the studio and supported with everything that was needed - from equipment to room treatment to cable management to studio workflow.

Q: Can you give us an overview of the studio?

At KriB Studios we have a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos control room used for mixing and mastering. We also have a vocal booth which has been acoustically treated for perfect voice overs, dubs. This booth is in direct line of sight of the control room which makes the communication easy. We also have a provision to record within the control room in case of a jam session or on-the-go scratch recordings whenever ideas come up.

Q: Were there any challenges in creating the studio, and how did you overcome them?

One of our primary goals was to create a room that performs equally well for music and film. We achieved this through careful acoustic treatment, precise speaker placement which is often over looked, Dolby calibration and a transparent monitoring chain built around Genelec SAM™ (Smart Active Monitors). This whoile setup allows us to work confidently in the room and ensures that our final mixes translate consistently across different playback systems.

Another key challenge was choosing the right equipment and, particularly, the right monitors for the space. We had a lot of options to consider, but after experiencing Genelec, we knew wanted to settle with them.

Q: Which speakers/subwoofers have you opted for in the studio build?

Q: Why were these models the right choice for the studio?

Shiv Sood from SoundTeam was a great support throughout the selection of the Genelec speakers for the studio. He gave us demonstrations of the Genelec models that were suitable for our space and shared valuable input and suggestions while we were building the studio.

We selected the Genelec SAM™ models for their accuracy, consistent imaging and reliable translation across different playback environments. The combination of 8350A monitors for the front channels, 8340A monitors for the surround and height channels, and dual 7380A subwoofers provides a balanced immersive monitoring system that suits the demands of music, film and commercial production.

Q: How do you think Genelec helps in your workflow?

For me, Genelec gives us a very accurate and transparent listening environment, which makes it much easier to make creative decisions with confidence. Since the room is carefully calibrated, what we hear here translates very well to other environments, whether it’s headphones, home systems, cinemas, streaming platforms or broadcast.

I’ve also noticed how consistent the Genelec sound remains when I check the work outside the studio. That consistency gives me a lot of confidence in the decisions I make during a session. I know I can rely on Genelec to give me a clear, detailed and consistent sound every time.

Q: Have you achieved what you hoped for the studio?

Whenever I enter my studio, I feel like I’ve come to a second home. It’s a place where I feel creative, productive and motivated to take on the next project. The quality of my work has improved tenfold, and the studio has become a versatile environment capable of handling everything from music production to OTT and film post-production.

The combination of good room acoustics, professional monitoring and a efficient streamlined workflow has enabled me and others to deliver consistent, high-quality results with confidence to our clients, which is very important.

My dream of having a personal creative space, as well as a space where others can feel inspired to create, has finally come true. There’s still a long way to go, and I can’t wait to see how this journey unfolds.

Q: Are there any future plans that you’d like to share with us?

Our focus is on continuing to expand our immersive audio capabilities, taking on more Dolby Atmos music and film projects, collaborating with artists and filmmakers, and further establishing KriB Studios as a destination for high-quality audio production in the city.
