Award-winning engineer and spatial audio specialist Matt Boerum, returns to the program, again sharing his unique expertise on immersive audio. “Immersive mixing, for me, is really just the next step in mastering,” he says. “It’s about honoring what’s already great, then elevating it – spatially, emotionally, sonically.”

This summer, the Genelec Experience Center in Boston hosted Peter More, a Texas-based songwriter and musician known for his genre-blending style that fuses rock, folk, and Latin influences, for a captivating live performance also featured on the Artist Room spotlight. Now, Matt Boerum discusses his techniques of mixing More’s performance of “Beautiful Disrepair” in Atmos, guiding viewers through his personal approach to bringing a masterful live performance to full life with spatial audio.

Boerum begins by explaining how to export the stems from the initial stereo Pro Tools session in preparation for an immersive up-mix. Then, he talks his way through the process of approaching an immersive mix and getting started. The video ends with Matt's final immersive mix of the performance.
