Celebrating Music and Heritage at Kaustinen Folk Music Festival
This year, my visit was especially meaningful as it provided me with the unique opportunity to represent Genelec while also performing with the esteemed folk band Tallari and catching the festival's most captivating moments. I also conducted a series of interviews as part of the Genelec’s content creation efforts.
At Genelec, we are committed to preserving and amplifying cultural heritage, which plays a crucial role in sustainability and the advocation of creative expression. This festival not only celebrates the rich history and continuing heartbeat of folk music but brings people together through the common language of music.

The Heart of Kaustinen: A Fusion of Traditions
The Kaustinen Folk Music Festival has been a beacon of folk music since 1968. With its deep roots in the region's fiddler tradition – recognised by UNESCO in 2021 – it draws performers and audiences from across the globe. Over the years, the festival has grown to feature around 30 stages, offering music from morning until night, all set within the welcoming Festival Park. Its family-friendly atmosphere and sense of community make it a place that people return to year after year.
The theme of this year’s festival, Migration, was brought to life through artists sharing their unique stories through sound, dance and song. From the rhythm of Finnish folk music to international influences, Kaustinen provided a perfect example of cultural appreciation transcending borders. For me, one of the most touching aspects of Kaustinen was how the festival raised flags of the countries from which artists were invited. This thoughtful gesture exemplified the hospitality and inclusivity that Kaustinen is known for.

Opening Ceremony: A Moment of Fusion
This year, I had the privilege of joining top Finnish folk group, Tallari, on stage for two concerts, including during the festival's opening ceremony. We performed "Morgh-e Sahar," a beloved Iranian traditional song. It was an emotional and symbolic moment, joyfully bringing together our different cultures on the same stage.

Näppärit: A Symbol of Youth and Unity
A standout moment for me was the performance by Näppärit at the opening ceremony, where almost 600 musicians – children and adults – gathered on stage, representing a wide range of nationalities. Their performance was a vibrant and truly powerful display of unity and mass collaboration.

Genelec’s Role and Values
Genelec’s involvement in the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival resonated strongly with me. As a company, we share the festival’s mission of bringing together and shining a light on the beautiful diversity of global music cultures – and I was especially proud that we supported the children’s tent at the festival. At Genelec, we believe that nurturing creativity from an early age is vital for fostering the well-being of future generations. It felt truly gratifying to be a part of supporting kids in their enthusiastic exploration of music, dance, storytelling and culture.

Kaustinen: The Festival and the Power of Music
As I reflect on the experiences and connections made during the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, I’m reminded of the power of music as a force of good. It transcends barriers, unites generations, and serves as a vehicle for cultural expression. Kaustinen continues to be an inspiring meeting place where musicians, artists and visitors alike come together to celebrate music and the traditions that shape who we are. I am deeply grateful to the festival organisers, performers and attendees for making the 2025 edition unforgettable. I hope to see you there next year!
